BC Greens: Fall legislative session lacks vision and fails to tackle real problems

Oct 9, 2025

VICTORIA, B.C. – “At the beginning of this session, the government said it would present a legislative agenda that responds to the pressing issues facing British Columbians—and even to Donald Trump,” said Jeremy Valeriote, MLA for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky.

“But when British Columbians are choosing between keeping the lights on or putting food on the table, they’re not blaming Donald Trump. They’re wondering when this government will actually start helping them.”

“This legislative agenda is largely non-controversial,” added Valeriote. “There are some important adjustments to legislation on intimate images, sexual violence, and payments for contractors, but overall, the lack of vision leaves a vacuum for other political distractions.”

“We need action on affordability, on emergency room closures, on the housing shortage, on the toxic drug crisis. British Columbians need leadership and instead this government is giving them strikes and service delays,” said Rob Botterell, MLA for Saanich North and the Islands.

“Right now, we need to focus on fairness and affordability—on pocketbook issues and what’s happening at the kitchen table. There are some good pieces of legislation in here, but nothing that addresses the huge range of affordability challenges people are facing in this province. Most of these bills are band-aids.”

Valeriote said that the economic tunnel vision on LNG from the Premier is concerning.

“If there’s one vision the Premier seems to have, it’s for LNG. He wants to position B.C. as Canada’s economic engine, but his entire strategy leans on liquefied natural gas and totally ignores the health effects and actual economic benefit. The truth is, in the race to LNG, we’re already late—but in the race to renewables, we could still lead.”
