Lək̓ʷəŋən [LEKWUNGEN] TERRITORY / VICTORIA, B.C. – The BC Green Party has elected Emily Lowan as its new Leader, following the conclusion of the 2025 Leadership Contest.
Lowan, a Victoria-based organizer and advocate, has spent over a decade building campaigns for climate justice, Indigenous solidarity, and democratic reform. She has led high-impact campaigns at Climate Action Network Canada, published critical climate research, worked at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives’ Corporate Mapping Project, and successfully fought for fossil fuel divestment as a student union leader.
“Our bold, progressive vision has captured the imagination of a new generation of Green voters,” said Lowan. “I know that we’re at the forefront of a powerful movement that will reclaim BC’s economy for working people, not billionaires and multinational corporations. Together, we can build a resilient, thriving province that respects Indigenous sovereignty and our planetary boundaries.”

About Emily Lowan
Emily is a renter, climate justice organizer, and advocate for Indigenous solidarity. As a strategist for Climate Action Network Canada, she has led federal policy coalitions, such as industry pollution regulation, that represent over 1.5 million Canadians. She has worked with Indigenous Nations on impact assessments and policy research, trained grassroots groups in campaign strategy, and authored reports on the economic and environmental risks of fossil fuel expansion. Her candidacy was endorsed by world-renowned leaders, such as Dr. David Suzuki, Dr. Gabor Maté, Grand Chief Stewart Phillip and Tzeporah Berman.
Emily has been a leader in campaigns for affordability, climate action, and democratic reform. She brings proven expertise in coalition-building and strategic advocacy, as well as a strong record of empowering communities to take action.
