BC Greens Announce the Resignation of Deputy Leader Dr. Lisa Gunderson

Lək̓ʷəŋən [LEKWUNGEN] TERRITORY / VICTORIA B.C. – The BC Green Party today announces that Dr. Lisa Gunderson is stepping down from her role as Deputy Leader, and honours her profound contributions to the party and the broader movement for a more just and caring British Columbia.

Dr. Gunderson has served as Deputy Leader since 2022, bringing to the role deep expertise as an award-winning educator and consultant, with a PhD in clinical child psychology. Throughout her tenure, she championed mental health, equity, and a politics rooted in inclusivity, respect, and evidence-based care. Her leadership helped strengthen the BC Greens as both a political party and a people-powered movement.

“I have been honoured to serve as Deputy Leader,” said Dr. Gunderson. “I thoroughly enjoyed representing and advocating for the BC Greens and their vision for British Columbia, and meeting so many people across the province. Working alongside Sonia, Adam, Rob, Jeremy, and the incredibly talented team within our party was a true privilege. I wish continued success to Emily, Rob, and Jeremy, and all the best to our future candidates. I know they will continue to serve British Columbians with integrity and courage.”

BC Green Leader Emily Lowan thanked Dr. Gunderson for her leadership and lasting impact. “Lisa brought wisdom, compassion, and clarity to everything she did,” said Lowan. “Her background in mental health and education strengthened our party at a critical moment, and her leadership modelled the kind of politics we believe in — thoughtful, principled, and deeply human. I am profoundly grateful for her service, and I know her influence will continue to shape our movement for years to come.”

Former BC Green Leader Sonia Furstenau also expressed her appreciation. “I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Lisa for her outstanding service and leadership,” said Furstenau. “It was a pleasure to work alongside her and to learn from her. She brought extraordinary insight and care to her role, and the party is stronger because of her.”

While stepping back from this leadership position, Dr. Gunderson remains an active and valued member of the BC Greens. As a community leader and advocate, she will continue to support the party’s vision for British Columbia and champion the issues closest to her heart
