Lək̓ʷəŋən [LEKWUNGEN] TERRITORY / VICTORIA B.C. – The BC Green Party announced today that Emily Lowan is an approved contestant for the party’s 2025 leadership contest.
“I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for Leader of the BC Green Party,” said Lowan. “These are not normal times. British Columbians are facing unprecedented challenges—from a crushing affordability crisis to the accelerating climate emergency. The rising MAGA movement also poses real threats to our province. Instead of turning to real solutions, Premier Eby is using the Trump threat to justify Bill 15, a sweeping power-grab that undermines climate goals and Indigenous rights. In the same breath, he is fast-tracking the disastrous Prince Rupert Gas Pipeline, which is backed by donors in Trump’s inner circle. “
“I’m tired of corporations and billionaires calling the shots. It’s time for people-powered resistance to confront corporate greed and government complacency. My campaign, ‘Fight the Oligarchs, Fund Our Future,’ is a call to action to force the B.C. government to change course. As an organizer with a decade of experience, I have a proven track record of leading campaigns for climate action, democracy, and Indigenous solidarity. My platform for BC Greens Leader focuses on bold solutions: stopping major projects that ignore Indigenous rights, implementing vacancy control, lowering the cost of living, and taxing the ultra-rich to invest in truly affordable housing, free public transit, and good green jobs. This isn’t just about winning an election, it’s about building a powerful movement to transform B.C. for the better. Join us.”
The party will release the names of other approved contestants in the coming days.
The first official leadership contest event, “Meet & Green”, will take place on Friday, July 11, at The Nest (UBC Campus) – 6133 University Blvd (Vancouver) and online. More information is available on the party’s website.
A contestant town hall will be held in August, and a contestant debate will be held in September. Voting will take place from Saturday, September 13 to Tuesday, September 23, with the results expected the morning of Wednesday, September 24.
