Lia Versaevel nominated as B.C. Greens candidate in Nanaimo-North Cowichan

May 2, 2019

LADYSMITH B.C. – The B.C. Green Party is pleased to announce the nomination of its candidate for Nanaimo-North Cowichan, Lia Versaevel. Versaevel worked in the Ministry of Justice for 27 years and has been behind several social justice projects in her riding.

“Nanaimo-North Cowichan is ready for a responsible, responsive and representative MLA who is not a professional politician,” Versaevel said. “I reflect our values around sustainability, social justice and non-violence, protecting our fragile coastal ecosystems and respecting the traditional territories, languages and cultures of First Nations. I empathize with the struggles of my fellow Islanders in the challenges in finding sustainable work, affordable housing and clean drinking water. We need local services, products and educational opportunities for our families. I am tenacious, dedicated to Green policies, and ready to represent local interests in provincial politics.”

“We are in desperate need of MLAs who have a concrete vision for how the provincial government can work respectfully and effectively with First Nations and local communities,” B.C. Green Party leader Andrew Weaver added. “We have to resist old patterns and seek creative paths forward. Lis Versaevel is the type of person who is up to this challenge and capable of making it happen.
