Lək̓ʷəŋən [LEKWUNGEN] TERRITORY / VICTORIA B.C. — The BC Green Party has released the following statement from Interim LeaderJeremy Valeriote:

“I want to assure all BC Green members and supporters, and British Columbians, that our party has the capacity and resources to verify the identity of all new, eligible members who want to vote in the 2025 leadership contest.

“Yesterday, a letter from a leadership contestant’s legal counsel was released to the media, indicating they are considering litigation over the party’s ID verification process. While the BC Green Party believes it was inappropriate to release a private letter into the public sphere, we are releasing our response at the request of the Leadership Contest Committee in order to provide clarity and transparency to members.

“The ID verification process exists to protect the integrity of the vote for members and British Columbians at large, regardless of which contestant they may support.”

The party has established five verification methods, including online verification through Vaultie, virtual meetings, drop-in sessions, member vouching, and in-person options. While we have encouraged new members to complete verification before voting opens on September 13, verification remains open until the end of the day on September 22, the day before voting ends.

As of 11:00 AM today, over 40% of new members have been verified. Those who still need to complete their verification can begin immediately at https://bcgreens.ca/leadership-contest/verification/ or by contacting id@bcgreens.ca.

We are proud of the work of each contestant to grow the party membership by thousands, and we look forward to a fair and secure election. We want to thank our dedicated staff and volunteers, who are working long hours to ensure all new, eligible members have the opportunity to verify their identities and vote.
