BC Greens’ statement on snap election

Sep 18, 2026

Lək̓ʔəŋən [LEKWUNGEN] TERRITORY / VICTORIA, B.C. — The consensus is that Premier Eby will be calling a snap election as soon as tomorrow. This would be an expensive move that no one in B.C. wants  — and it continues the government’s track record of putting their interests above those of every day British Columbians.

The BC NDP has a majority government. They are able to pass any piece of legislation they choose to. And what have they done with that power?

If Premier Eby wants a performance review, the BC Greens are ready to give him one. Here’s the report card:

  • Promised to build affordable housing, then cancelled the $1.4B Community Housing Fund, leaving thousands of approved affordable housing projects unbuilt.
  • Promised $10-a-day childcare for every family, then froze the program.
  • Promised $1,000 cheques to help families to address the cost of groceries, then immediately walked it back.
  • Legislated safe nurse-to-patient ratios — then let the rollout stall so badly that nurses had to take job action this summer just to be heard.
  • Greenlit billions in handouts to LNG corporations while communities across B.C. burned.

This government has continually walked away from its own promises and now they’re putting their own electoral interests above what’s best for the people of B.C. again.

A stable government does not look to a worried populace and choose to destabilize their lives even further with an election call two years early, during a local election cycle.

The BC Greens have a growing base of grassroots volunteers and exciting candidate announcements coming soon. We look forward to showing British Columbians they can believe in better.
