If you work, contribute, or raise a family here, you should be able to afford to build a life here.
Rent, mortgages, groceries and household costs keep consuming more of what you earn. Even when you work full-time you can’t keep up. You’re keeping your end of the bargain, the government should be doing more to keep its.
The BC Greens will:
- Build and protect 26,000 permanently affordable, non-market homes a year, and make it easier and quicker to build all forms of housing.
- Make transit fast, frequent, and free.
- Pass vacancy control to ensure landlords can’t raise the rent every time a tenant moves out.
- Restart the stalled $10-a-day childcare pledge as we chart a path towards universal coverage, with fair pay for early childhood educators.
- Raise the social and disability assistance rates above the poverty line, index them to inflation, and put an end to clawbacks.
- Boost minimum wage increases to build a living wage, and give every worker the chance to join a union with sectoral bargaining.
Care You Can Count On
When you, or someone you love, needs care it should be there.
Ask anyone waiting for a family doctor, or a nurse pulling a double because their unit is short-staffed again, and they'll tell you the system is holding on by a thread. We will ensure that the care you, or your loved ones, need will be there when they need it.
The BC Greens will:
- Build Community Health Centres in every region, with team-based care and long-term support.
- Finish delivering safe nurse-to-patient ratios.
- Keep every public health dollar in public care.
- Cover mental health care through the public system.
- Fight the toxic drugs crisis with effective harm reduction and real investment in voluntary care.
Economic Fairness for All
Those who are profiting most from British Columbia should pay their fair share just like everyone else.
The teacher, the trades worker, and the small business all pay their share. Yet a few, ultra-wealthy British Columbians, each worth more than $100 million, have been let off the hook, along with a handful of mega-corporations jacking up prices at our expense. Our Fair Share Act will ensure they pay their fair share and British Columbians get what they’re owed. That would raise more than $13 billion in revenue for Community Health Centres, free transit, and universal childcare for families.
We will:
- Will ensure the few hundred of the richest people in British Columbia pay their fair share.
- We will be implementing a windfall tax on mega-corporation to bring in British Columbians fair share and build our revenue base to pay for community health centres, transit, and reign in the provincial debt.
- A fair royalty deal for oil and gas. We will eliminate the subsidies fossil fuel companies receive, regain control over royalty rates, and ensure existing LNG projects cover their own power costs instead of leaning on the public system.
- Stronger public returns from B.C.'s natural resources, with community and Indigenous ownership.
- Support small businesses through commercial rent control and Community Wealth Building.
Fight for the Future
This government talks about protecting our climate, our forests, our rights, and our democracy — and hasn't delivered on any of them.
We believe fighting for the future means protecting people and the planet. It means honouring Indigenous rights in full, protecting vulnerable communities, and acting on a growing climate crisis through record investments in renewables and good green union jobs. We’ll also institute a voting system where every vote counts.
- No new fossil fuel development.
- Institute a climate plan that lives up to the science of climate change and protects this generation and all the generations after that.
- Clean energy and home retrofits to lower your bills and create good union jobs.
- Selective logging and value-added industries to create sustainable jobs. Fully fund old-growth deferrals, with fair compensation for First Nations and forestry communities.
- Modernize our mining laws to protect communities and prioritize the resources BC needs for a renewable revolution.
- Reject culture wars — uphold the rights of Indigenous, 2SLGBTQ+, and all vulnerable communities. Work to end BC’s complicity in global human rights violations.
- Proportional representation legislation within the first 100 days.
