Justin Douglas is a small-business owner, lawyer by training, and community advocate running to represent the Cowichan Valley. Raised on Vancouver Island by a single mother, Justin proudly calls the Cowichan Valley home and is committed to making sure local communities have a strong voice in the decisions that affect their lives.
Justin is the co-founder of EMBER Studios Duncan and VIT Management. As a local entrepreneur, he understands firsthand the realities of running a small business, creating opportunities, supporting workers, and contributing to the community.
He holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Victoria and degrees in both Common Law and Civil Law from McGill University. His legal and community experience includes work in immigration and refugee law, legal information services, restorative justice, and non-profit organizations.
Justin has also worked on community development initiatives involving ecotourism, infrastructure, access to safe drinking water, and youth engagement. His writing has addressed issues including the criminalization of poverty and the importance of including Indigenous legal perspectives in Canadian legal education.
Justin is running because he believes government should be accountable to the people it serves. His priorities include strengthening public services and social programs, protecting the environment, supporting a fair economy, and ensuring people across the Cowichan Valley are represented in the decisions that shape their future.
