Benjamin Olsson
North Island“I want to support the people and places I love by listening, leading, and acting in the best interests of the North Island.”
Benjamin Olsson is a Registered Social Worker, healthcare professional and longtime North Island resident who has called Campbell River home since 2010. He moved to Vancouver Island because of his love for the coast and has developed a deep connection to the communities and natural environment of the North Island.
Benjamin holds a Diploma in Social Work from Red Deer College and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Regina. He later completed a Post-Degree Diploma in Interprofessional Mental Health and Addiction at Camosun College. His career has included work in social services, healthcare, mental health and community wellness.
Community involvement has been a constant throughout Benjamin’s life. He has more than two decades of union activism, has participated in election campaigns and has supported a wide range of local causes including Pride events, the Terry Fox Run, Cops for Cancer, Habitat for Humanity, the Campbell River Hospice Society and harm reduction initiatives.
Benjamin has also been active in advocating for the protection of green spaces and critical salmon habitat. He believes the North Island’s communities, forests, coastlines and ecosystems are worth protecting for the people who live there today and for future generations.
His political involvement began early and has included organizing, union work and serving as Leader of the Green Party of Saskatchewan in 2003. He brings that experience together with decades of frontline work supporting individuals, families and communities.
Benjamin is running in North Island to bring his experience in social work, healthcare, community organizing and environmental advocacy into public service, with a focus on listening to local residents and acting in the best interests of the communities he calls home.
