Lək̓ʔəŋən [LEKWUNGEN] TERRITORY / VICTORIA, B.C. —The BC Greens welcome today’s commitment from David Eby to develop a province-wide women’s health strategy, but say women in B.C. have been waiting far too long. They released this statement following the announcement:
“In March 2024, the BC Greens called on the NDP government to update the province’s Women’s Health and Well-being report, which had not been revised since 2011. The report still has not been updated.
We’re glad the NDP is finally listening, but women shouldn’t have to wait for an election campaign to get the care they need. We raised this years ago. The NDP had every opportunity to act, and instead women dealing with menopause, endometriosis, perinatal mental health and long diagnostic delays were left waiting.
The perinatal mental health unit and expanded menopause coverage are positive steps, women’s healthcare and gender-inclusive care is systemically under-resourced and under-researched. Women’s health has been overlooked in B.C. for too long. The BC Greens will keep fighting for a well-resourced system that centers gender equity in every community and provides the high level of healthcare that everyone deserves.”
