Anisha Sandhu

Langley-Willowbrook

“I want to bring our community’s experiences into provincial decision-making and work toward a future where everyone has a fair chance to thrive.”

Anisha Sandhu is a food systems professional, researcher, and community leader who was born and raised in British Columbia. Her work is centred on a simple question: what needs to change so people have a fair chance to build a good life?

As a community food security coordinator, Anisha works with organizations helping people meet their basic needs. She brings together frontline staff, volunteers, and community partners to understand growing demand, identify gaps, and turn local experience into priorities for action. Through this work, she has seen how difficult it has become for many people to afford essentials and how much pressure is being placed on community organizations to fill gaps that require broader public solutions.

Previously, Anisha chaired Seeds of Change Surrey, where she built relationships between community partners and City representatives to advance food security in municipal planning. As a member of Surrey’s Agricultural and Food Policy Committee, she advanced a successful motion recommending next steps toward a municipal Food Charter and pressed for progress on a longstanding City commitment.

Anisha also served as a UBC Senator and as an executive of UBC’s Alma Mater Society, where she represented more than 60,000 students and advocated with senior university decision-makers. These experiences strengthened her ability to bring community concerns into decision-making spaces and work toward practical change.

She holds a Master of Science in Human Nutrition and a Bachelor of Science in Food, Nutrition and Health from UBC, with a minor in Sustainable Food Systems. Her graduate research examined how a digital nutrition tool could better serve people with limited health literacy, reinforcing the importance of designing services around the people who use them and grounding decisions in evidence.

Anisha is running in Langley-Willowbrook because she believes people deserve more than simply getting by. She wants to bring the experiences of the community into provincial decision-making and work toward a future where people can feel secure, support their families, and have a fair opportunity to thrive.
