Hi, I’m Emily Lowan and I’m running to be your MLA for Saanich North and the Islands.

I feel so lucky to have spent my youth crabbing with my dad off the Sidney pier, camping with my family in Ruckle Park, and snorkelling at Ardmore Beach. I grew up with a reverence for this coastline and the people who’ve built their lives around it. I’ve watched this community do what the government wouldn’t. When the Peninsula was staring down a lost generation of family doctors, neighbours built Shoreline Medical Society from nothing and turned five doctors into twenty-five. It’s an incredible achievement, and a beautiful example of what we can get done when people work together.

Loving this place also means seeing clearly what’s happening to it. Healthcare and housing keep drifting further out of reach, as people work harder than ever just to make ends meet. Ferries break down and get cancelled with no real fix in sight. Wildfire smoke settles over these islands more summers than not. Oil tankers keep moving through the Salish Sea while the Southern Resident orca population—down to just 74 whales—barely hangs on.

I’m running because I see the same challenges you do, and I have the experience, grit, and determination to fight alongside you. I’m running to make sure you can afford to build a life, you get care when you need it, and that the people you love and the planet you stand on are protected, this generation and the next.

I’ve spent my entire life fighting for better—for people, our planet, and our province. I’m a coalition builder, bringing groups together, from rural to urban, labour to environmental, to build a future where everyone, not just the fortunate few, gets to thrive. I’ve worked across the country, leading coalitions with labour, Indigenous nations, and environmental groups to advocate for federal pollution regulations as the fossil fuel supply campaigns lead for Climate Action Network Canada. I’ve worked as an investigative researcher with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives’ Corporate Mapping Project, exposing corporate influence in our government and training researchers nationwide. Right here in B.C., I’ve been standing up for affordable housing, accessible healthcare, a fair economy, and a liveable planet as the leader of the BC Greens.

I feel incredibly honoured to step into the legacy of Adam Olsen and Rob Botterell, passionate advocates for their communities who proved what Green representation delivers, election after election. I’m honoured to work to carry that legacy forward.

I’m a renter, an organizer, a Saanich Fair enthusiast (I’ve been every single year!), and I’m the leader of the BC Greens. The status quo is failing all of us. I want to be in your corner.
