Kyra Philbert
Vancouver-Hastings“As a nurse, I see how climate change threatens the wellbeing of our communities. It must be recognized for the public health emergency that it is.”
Kyra Philbert (she/her) is an artist, scholar, and registered nurse with more than a decade of experience in healthcare. Her work is grounded in health equity, social justice, and the belief that urgent climate action is necessary to protect our collective well-being.
In 2022, Kyra completed a Bachelor of Arts in Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice as well as a Master of Science in Nursing at the University of British Columbia. Her graduate research, Nurse Angélique, examined connections between the early colonial history of Canadian nursing and more than 400 years of Black history in Canada.
Kyra brings together healthcare experience, academic research, and creative practice with a strong focus on the climate emergency. She believes addressing climate change requires the same urgency we bring to other threats to public health and that climate policy must also consider equity, justice, and the well-being of communities.
Kyra is a settler living, working and playing on the unceded traditional territories of the ʷməθkwəy̓əm, Skwxwú7mesh and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh nations.
