Lisa Lapointe is a longtime public servant, law graduate, and former Chief Coroner of British Columbia who has spent three decades working to support healthier and safer communities across the province.

From 2011 until her retirement in 2024, Lisa served as B.C.’s Chief Coroner, overseeing the independent and objective investigation of unnatural and unexpected deaths across the province. During her tenure, she became known as an advocate for evidence and public-health data informing government decision-making. In 2018, the BC Coroners Service received the inaugural Premier’s Award for Evidence-Based Design for its analysis and timely reporting of illicit drug overdose deaths during the ongoing public-health emergency.

During her tenure, she worked proactively to strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities. In 2017, in partnership with the First Nations Health Authority, she committed the Coroners Service to Cultural Safety and Humility in services for First Nations and Indigenous people in British Columbia. The Coroners Service was the first provincial government agency to make that public commitment.

Lisa holds a law degree from the University of British Columbia. She joined the BC Public Service in 1995 and served in a range of roles before joining the Coroners Service, including with the province’s Civil Forfeiture Office. She also served as chair of the Canadian Forum of Chief Coroners and Chief Medical Examiners and of the British Columbia Institute of Technology’s Forensic Science and Technology Program Advisory Committee.

Her commitment to community continues through her service as a board member of PHS Community Services Society, which provides housing, healthcare, harm reduction, and health-promotion services to vulnerable and underserved people in Vancouver and Victoria. She is also a member of Moms Stop the Harm and has previously served on the Central Saanich Advisory Planning Committee and volunteered with hospice at Saanich Peninsula Hospital.

Now a grandmother of five, she is deeply concerned about the future facing younger generations, particularly the growing impacts of climate change and persistent gaps in housing, healthcare, mental-health supports, and other essential public services. She is running to bring her decades of public-service experience, evidence-based approach, and commitment to public health and environmental responsibility to the Legislature.
